Meet Patrick – owner of a vintage 1978 911Patrick, who is 51, is a member of the “Z-group” – “Z” stands for Zahnärzte (German for dentists). “There are three of us here,” the Munich native says with a smile. He usually takes part in vintage car rallies in his 1978 911 SC. But his vehicle can do more than this, especially since his Ruf coupé was converted to SCR – with a new chassis, oil cooler, spoiler front and rear, 3.2 rather than 3.0-litre engine and now up to 245 hp from 180. Now Patrick really wants to get the most out of his car: “This isn’t really possible any more on public roads.”

Robert (44) is a communications specialist from Fürth and heavily modified his 1977 911 Targa, as he romps around on frozen Norwegian lakes with his friends every year. The car is raised higher, has a retractable glass roof, can hold a luggage rack, has auxiliary headlights and the former three-litre six-cylinder SC has been significantly upgraded and now has 300 hp. “Around 750 workshop hours went into the vehicle,” he says with pride. “But my wife also uses it for shopping.”

Rainhard from Aachen (66) has really prepared his 1984 Carrera for sport: turbo enlargement, special bumpers, sports seats, roll cage. Thanks to the sports exhaust system, the construction engineer is behind the wheel with around 250 hp. “I’m thinking about sporting performance with the car here. I still have a 1985 Carrera at home for more stylish driving.” The most striking indication of this is the Gulf design, which he had painted on the 911 after decals proved to be unsuccessful.
