From timeless icons reimagined to bold dreams made real, four Porsche owners tell the stories of their personal Sonderwunsch creations
Dreams spark the imagination. They take you further than you thought possible – beyond boundaries, beyond limits. At Porsche, that dream has a name: Sonderwunsch (‘special request’). The Sonderwunsch programme is where personal visions become reality. Going even beyond the individualisation options available with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, Sonderwunsch is where unique Porsche cars are born – custom builds, full restorations and entirely new creations that exist nowhere else in the world. It is the pinnacle of Porsche individualisation, and an exhilarating journey for both the customers and the team who design and build them. The Sonderwunsch programme is a unique and highly personal collaboration between Porsche and its customers. Here, Porsche designer Daniela Milošević talks colours with customer Jorge Carnicero Photo: PorscheThe department was first established in 1978 and revived in 2021, taking the Sonderwunsch programme to a whole new level when it comes to individualisation, making it an even more intimate and creative process. Customers can be part of a number of processes, including co-ordinating with the company archive, the design studio and the manufacturing process, who are involved throughout. For Customer one-off projects, you are even honoured with a Porsche workshop ID badge on handover as a symbol of the family you’ve joined. It’s what led him to working with Sonderwunsch to create his striking 911 Speedster Photo: PorscheFor Italian architect and industrial designer Luca Trazzi, the 911 Speedster is a design icon. With the exception of two one-offs and, much later, a model rebuilt as part of a factory restoration, there was no Speedster from the fourth generation of the 911 – the type 993 – in the regular model programme.
“At the start I looked around but couldn’t find the car of my dreams. So, I decided to build it myself,” said Luca echoing the legendary statement from Ferry Porsche. A 993-generation 911 Speedster was missing from the Porsche enthusiast’s extensive Speedster collection, so he turned to the Sonderwunsch team at Porsche to realise his project. Together with the experts, Luca proceeded to make his dream car a reality.“I wanted to create a unique car with a clear identity that respects tradition but is also new and modern,” he says. The rear humps, a defining element of the Speedster silhouette, became his starting point. “I wanted to summarise them in the design of the new Speedster as a tribute to the lines of the 911, 964, 993, 997 and the 991.”For his one-off 911 Speedster, Luca got to work alongside a team of Porsche engineers and designers like Grant Larson, who was the designer of the original Porsche Boxster. Here, Luca's beloved dog, Otto, makes himself feel at home in the passenger seat Photo: Porsche“[Luca] was far, far, far away from a normal starting point,” recalls Uwe Makrutzki, Manager, Sonderwunsch Manufaktur Classic, of Luca’s vision for his car. “This was different to every other project we had done in the past.”Working closely with Porsche designer Grant Larson, Luca honed every line. “It was a lot of fun working with Grant,” says Luca. “We spent hours looking at every millimetre and adjusting it. We kept refining it until it was perfect – like two nerds.”A special Porsche ID badge is presented specifically to owners of Sonderwunsch Customer one-off cars, such as Luca Photo: Porsche“The colour of this car was born from the love for this dog that I adore called Otto,” adds Luca. “So I wanted to pay homage and dedicated something to him, creating Otto Yellow.” It’s a vibrant, custom hue that made the car’s lines even softer, as Luca intended.Luca’s finished car certainly cuts an impressive figure in its vibrant bespoke paint colour – named Otto Yellow, after the car owner's dog. These personal touches born out of personal stories are why the Sonderwunsch programme is so special Photo: PorscheInside, the car combines tradition and technology. Carbon shell seats clad in yellow and black chequered fabric reference classic Porsche interior styles, while pushing the design forward. For Luca, the entire process working with Sonderwunsch was transformative: “To be involved in this is to feel part of a family, because I got to meet a lot of fantastic people.”Sylvia Schiefer · 911 Targa 4 GTS“I love everything about cars: how they smell, how they sound, how they drive. Everything” For Sylvia Schiefer, colours are “emotions” and “feelings” – which an opportunity to create her own unique Porsche with Sonderwunsch allowed her to express fully Photo: PorscheSylvia Schiefer set out to build something truly personal when she approached Sonderwunsch. A 911 Targa 4 GTS unlike any other – her very own dream car.“Our journey at Sonderwunsch began because we wanted something even more unique than what’s available in the configurator,” says Sylvia. “We were looking for a very personal dream car. Something the world has never seen before.”There are many levels of individualisation available to customers at Porsche. Sylvia Schiefer worked with Sonderwunsch on her 911 Targa 4 GTS to create an example of it at the very highest level Photo: PorschePascal Selig, Customer Consultant at Porsche, remembers how focused Sylvia was when she came to visit them for the first time. “Sylvia knows what she wants, but she’s also very open to the possibilities of Porsche Sonderwunsch,” he says. “In the customer consultation, it really helped seeing all of our Sonderwunsch show cars. Especially the 911 Targa 4 GTS with the Riviera Blue interior, which was very fascinating to her.”“For me, colours are emotions,” explains Sylvia. “Feelings. I have to see them. And then [ask myself] ‘Yes or no?’”“Sylvia’s car stands out because we, for example, put leather to sample on top of the gear shifter,” says Pascal. “And for the very first time, we also put leather to sample on top of the dashboard and on top of the Sport Chrono cover.”For Sylvia, this process wasn’t just about specs. It was about soul. “Handcrafted precision is magical,” she explains.” Something special always comes out of it.”Jorge Carnicero · 911 S/T“Both cars and horses really bring me to a special place. They’re very much the same. It’s this sense of exhilaration. It’s this feeling that it gives you a freedom. It’s hard to describe”Jorge Carnicero has a passion for horses, which he breeds, but also for horsepower. His 911 S/T stands out in a colour called Dani Blue – named after Daniela Milošević, the Porsche designer he worked with to create the paint for his dazzling Sonderwunsch creation Photo: PorscheFor Jorge Carnicero, the 911 S/T is about connection. A lifelong passion for horses – which the American breeds – and cars shaped his approach to crafting his dream Porsche. “The single most challenging thing in terms of design for my car was coming up with the right colour,” says Jorge. “But through hard work and through historic research, we finally came up with the perfect colour.” That perfect shade – a striking, expressive blue – now bears the name Dani Blue, in tribute to Porsche designer Daniela Milošević, who played a key role in bringing Jorge’s vision to life. “Working with Jorge was very interesting because he is a super inspiring person that motivates people and brings ideas as well,” Daniela recalls.Jorge spent many hours researching different options for his 911 S/T. But the interior fabric, Pepita, is a Porsche classic – and a nod to the 60th anniversary of the model in 2023 Photo: Porsche“From the moment I test drove the 911 S/T, I fell in love,” remembers Jorge. “I immediately knew I wanted to merge its spirit with my love for the original 901. To craft my own perfect dream car.”And Sonderwunsch helped him do just that. From the exterior paint to the interior detailing, every choice was deliberate. “The reason that I chose the classic Pepita design [the time-honoured Porsche fabric for his car’s interior] is that I wanted to do a historical homage with the 911 S/T because it was the 60th anniversary of the 911.”Hadi Al Hussaini · 911 Dakar“Driving in the desert is akin to learning a new language. Reading the terrain is a skill. You never know what’s beyond the dune”Growing up in the Middle East means that the desert has played a big part in Hadi Al Hussaini’s life. So it’s no surprise that the model he chose as the starting point for his Sonderwunsch creation was the 911 Dakar, with its keen off-roading capabilities Photo: PorscheHadi Al Hussaini’s relationship with driving goes back to childhood. “My passion for cars started when I was six,” he says. “My father used to take us after Friday prayers to visit new car showrooms and see all the new models. And sportscars used to attract me the most. Since then, owning a Porsche has become a lifelong aspiration, as well as designing it collaboratively with my loved ones.” With Sonderwunsch, that passion found its form in a custom 911 Dakar made for adventure – and family.Hadi (top right), his son Abdulla (pictured bottom) and his family visited the Porsche headquarters in Zuffenhausen to meet the Sonderwunsch team, here with Alexander Fabig, Vice President Individualisation and Classic (top left). It was also a chance to cast their eyes over some historic Porsche cars Photo: Porsche“Family means everything to me,” says Hadi. “That’s why we travelled all together to Zuffenhausen to individualise the car. And that experience was even more important to me than the car itself.”Every part of Hadi’s car tells a story. “The 356 was offered in Aetna Blue in the 1960s, so that was definitely the inspiration for the exterior colour,” explains Dominic Mayer, Customer Consultant at Porsche. “It’s the same blue that reflects in petrol, capturing that timeless aesthetic,” adds Hadi. “While choosing the interior colour, I wanted something that reminds me of the desert. So I came across a dark leather that reminded me of the colour of the sand after rainfall.” Wood accents followed, adding warmth. “Sonderwunsch is a very special programme that allows the car owner to get creative with the car individualisation,” says Hadi. “With truly no limits to creativity.”
