New Adventure Accessories build on this, helping it tackle loose surfaces and carry useful outdoor equipment. Porsche took the car to the Erzberg mine in Austria to put that to the test

Its vast open-cast terraces are crossed by steep mining roads, loose gravel and exposed rock. It’s a working landscape where cars shouldn’t belong.Erzberg is also home to the annual Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, one of the world’s most demanding extreme enduro events. Its motorcycle course covers around 35 km of boulder-strewn ground and steep forest climbs. Of the 500 riders who start, only a handful typically reach the finish within the four-hour time limit.While the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo didn’t try the motorcycle-only Erzbergrodeo course, the location was a demanding setting to demonstrate its abilities away from smooth roads. Loose stones tested traction, steep gradients placed greater demands on the drivetrain and the uneven surface made additional ground clearance important.But along with its impressive off-road performance, the car offers space for passengers and luggage, increased ground clearance and the ability to keep going when a paved road becomes a gravel track.It’s also a fitting place to show what separates the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo from the Taycan sports saloon. The Cross Turismo sits 20 mm higher and has strengthened lower sections, side sills and wheelarch trims, as well as Gravel Mode, which is designed for driving on loose surfaces.Adventure Accessories adds all-terrain tyres, mud flaps and the equipment needed for more demanding trips away from paved roads. It focusses on giving more traction on loose surfaces, protection from stones and dirt and space for equipment that would otherwise take up room inside the car.The most significant change is a set of 20-inch Offroad Design wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres. Their tread is designed to find traction on surfaces such as gravel, dirt and wet grass, where a conventional road tyre can reach its limits sooner.Mud flaps provide additional protection around the wheelarches and lower body when the tyres throw up water, mud or loose stones. The available accessories include two 12-litre water canisters with dedicated holders, recovery boards for helping to free a vehicle that has lost traction and a folding shovel with axe and saw functions.The Porsche Outdoor 2.0 Duffle can also be secured to the roof basket. Its all-wheel-drive system, increased ground clearance and Gravel Mode give it capabilities beyond those of a conventional sportscar. For additional protection, the Adventure Accessories can be combined with the optional Offroad Design Package. It adds protective elements around the lower body to reduce the risk of stone-chip damage and raises the Taycan Cross Turismo by a further 10 mm.That additional clearance makes a useful difference on deeply rutted tracks for instance.
