Porsche highlights from the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed
All the Porsche action from the weekend – including show-stealing debuts
Home of the famous Goodwood Hillclimb, it’s one of the automotive events of the year as thousands of fans, a legion of incredible cars and stars of the track head to the English countryside for a weekend to remember. Porsche was there in force with some special cars
There’s nothing quite like the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Set in beautiful English countryside, against the backdrop of Goodwood House – the stately home owned by the event’s founder, Lord March – it’s a unique weekend where the greatest roadcars and racecars gather. They are joined by some of the biggest names in motorsport, both past and present, who show the cars off in inimitable style by blasting up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb – making sure they avoid the notorious flint wall that skirts a section of the near two-kilometre course.Appearing over the weekend were Porsche racing legends like Richard Attwood and Jacky Ickx, modern day greats such as Timo Bernhard and Mark Webber, and debuts for cars including the incredible new Porsche LMDh car for next year, the 963, as well as the beautiful tribute to classic Porsche sportscars of past, the 911 Sport Classic. And, naturally, a whole lot more besides – including some equally head-turning star turns on the Porsche stand. Strap yourself in and let’s go…Porsche 963Perhaps the most anticipated debut of the weekend was the unveiling of the new hybrid hypercar – the Porsche 963 LMDh prototype from Team Porsche Penske Motorsport. Developed to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from 2023, it was the closing act on Friday evening. On the start line, its covers were whipped off to wild applause, before it shot up the hill, setting thousands of cameras and phones clicking.Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformanceAll-electric power at its most impressive – that’s the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance, yet another Porsche premiere. This concept racecar will develop around 1000PS in qualifying mode. It looked equally at home on the short run up the Hillclimb. This is a car that we will be seeing plenty more of in the future.Porsche Vision Gran TurismoPorsche 911 Sport ClassicPorsche 936Porsche 917KPorsche 911 RSRPorsche 917/30Porsche 911 GT3Porsche race driver greats, past and present
